Rusty 421 Fish Hybrid Surfbrett

Skateboard-like feel

Bottom contour turns into a “hooked” vee as it approaches the rear foot, coming into the front fins. The deepest part of this double con is under the rear of the front fin. The deep concave in the front creates lift. A double concave creates a lateral break and helps to initiate turns. It helps to focus the water through the fins. By deepening the concave and focusing it close to the rail, deepest under the front fins, it gives extra hold and provides additional thrust and drive.

Shaper's notes

Designed on April 19th, 2019. The 419 was designed to be a “Classic Fish.” The 421 is a crown deck, narrower nose and tail, version of the 419. Designed as a Quad. I have a long history with Fish Designs starting with my first custom - a La Jolla Surfboards 8’10 Custom Twin Pin in 1967. World Contest, San Diego, 1972, Jim Blears 1st Place on a Fish. David Nuuhiwa, 2nd Place on a Fish. While working at G&S, 1972 through the spring of 1974, I became good friends with Skip Frye. Learned a lot from him. He was into Fish designs. I have countless versions of a Fish in my design files. We wanted to officially release a little racier Fish for the summer of 2023. The 419 has a light single that turns into a double vee in the back third. The 421 has a modest Rapid Entry. Approximately -.15 Rapid Entry concave that fades into a shallow hooked vee in the business zone.
